Established in 1995, PMI Audio Group began importing and distributing Professional Audio products out of its offices in Torrance, California. Now located in Gardena, California, PMI Audio Group designs and manufactures its own products under several well known brand names. Our products reach into many diverse markets such as recording, video, post, film, broadcast, and the fixed installation market. PMI’s owns and distributes several brands. They are Studio Projects, Joemeek, Toft Audio Designs, Valley People, Trident Audio Developments and CLM Dynamics.
PMI Audio Group offers service and equipment modifications in house, incorporating the latest testing equipment and the finest techs available. We stock large quantities of all product models, which ship direct, from our facilities in the USA and the UK. We boast our own in house advertising and marketing department that creates our own literature, shipping boxes, gift boxes, web sites, graphic design of our products and trade show booths. The department oversees our advertising and creates our own ads in house, which we advertise monthly in seven publications including, Mix, EQ, Electronic Musician, Pro Audio Review, Pro Sound News, Audio Media, and Recording Magazine.
PMI Audio Group utilizes several independent professional representative firms though out the United States to promote, demonstrate, and sell our products to the professional dealer network. In those areas that are not covered by representatives, PMI’s in-house staff is always available. In addition, we have aligned ourselves with distributors representing our products globally. We have a direct marketing program that enables us to market direct to the end user, so the customer can be sure of getting the proper information on the product quickly and efficiently. It has been a very successful program.
The first product PMI Audio Group introduced to the American market was Joemeek in early 1995. Joemeek is a signal processing line specializing in Photo-Optical Audio Compressors, Mic Preamplifiers, EQ's, and enhancers. Joemeek is focused towards the professional recording and home studio markets. We also manufacture a profitable Joemeek microphone line and are engineering a new upper end series called “Telstar” after Joe Meek’s most famous work. Joemeek’s products are created by Alan Hyatt and are designed by Alan Bradford in our UK branch.
Studio Projects was started by Alan Hyatt in 1999, as a compliment to Joemeek microphone preamplifiers. It started as a company creating products to target the Project Studio market with high quality high volume products, at a very attractive price. The Studio Projects C1 fixed Cardioid large diaphragm microphone has set the standard in the industry for high quality low cost professional microphones. With a full line of professional recording microphones Studio Projects has become a major contender in the competitive microphone market. In addition to the Studio Projects microphone line, we have incorporated several models of electronics. A microphone preamplifier design called the VTB-1, and an 8 Channel Mic pre Mixer called the SP828. Recent additions to The SP mic line include the highly anticipated CS Series. All Studio Projects Microphones are designed in house in Gardena, California by Brent Casey.
Toft Audio Designs may be a young company to the professional audio industry, but the people behind it are seasoned veterans. Toft Audio Designs is dedicated to providing high quality, well engineered professional audio products at a very competitive price. Malcolm Toft, the designer behind the products and the founder of Trident Audio Developments, has an excellent pedigree as a recording engineer with credits like the Beatles' ‘Hey Jude’, David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’, and James Taylor’s first album just to name a few. Malcolm Toft was the senior engineer at Trident Recording Studios in London from the early 1960’s. It was Roy Thomas Baker who replaced Malcolm after Malcolm founded the Trident Recording Console line. The first product released by Toft Audio is the ATC-2. The ATC-2 is a FET compressor with 4 band EQ and 2 microphone preamplifiers. Since the release of the ATC 2 there have been 3 other additions to the Toft Audio outboard gear line, and in 2006 the release of the ATB consoles. The ATB console is a modern recreation of the Trident 80B incorporating many of the core aspects designed into the legendary board including the EQ chain.
Valley People
Recently acquired by PMI Audio Group, Valley People is under development in Nashville, TN with the help of one of the original designers Michael “Doc” Morgan and a team of original assembly workers.
Trident Audio Developments
After long negotiations, PMI Audio has announced its acquisition of the original Trident Audio Developments Company. PMI has purchased all of the trademark rights, intellectual property rights, goodwill and assets of Trident Audio Developments from David Stocks. David Stocks acquired the company from Relyon after Malcolm Toft sold it to Relyon.
CLM Dynamics
CLM Dynamics is a recent acquisition and there are two products that are being brought back. They are the DB-8000 and DB-500. These products are well thought of in the high end community and were originally designed by Allan Bradford well before Allan came to work for PMI Audio.
